I read in the newspaper the other day that effective next season, Major League Baseball is going to implement a replay system. This means that some calls in baseball that are controversial are going to be reviewable by a booth. So if a foul ball is questionable, or a home run comes close to being in bounds, there is going to be a replay process where officials get together and review what happened live.
This is a big deal because if calls are going to be reviewed, the "human error" factor will be eliminated from baseball. Up to this point, baseball was one of the last remaining sports that still made all of the calls up to the officials. Now there are not going to be any manager-umpire disputes at home plate, and no borderline calls that teams were glad went their way.
Now that baseball is reviewed it becomes a sport performed by professionals and umpired by the MLB. It is no longer a sport "played" by both the teams and the umpires.
